Aurora Silver Manufacturing Company made this beautiful, large, handpainted bridal basket between 1869 and 1875. A rare, silver-plated basket stands in a tree and bird pattern, representing hope and a positive new beginning for the bridal couple who benefit from their union. This basket represents the full elegant expression of beauty, love, and graciousness - the original meaning behind the bride's basket - as a flower girl carried the basket to bestow flower petals down the church aisle. Larger baskets, such as this hand-painted one, were used during the reception to display the bride's bouquet. The Aurora Silver Company manufactured silver-plated goods from 1869 until 1919 from Aurora, Illinois.
